Little Wonders
Module 2 Focus with Helen Kindred (20/09/2021)
I was a bit nervous coming into this session as I wasn't able to attend the welcome calls last week, so I thought I might have been a bit overwhelmed. However, I was so pleasantly surprised to find the call extremely helpful and motivational!
Helen began by explaining the term 'Little Wonders' as areas you are curious about that will help to determine your research project.
We then went round and all introduced our initial ideas for an inquiry. Helen helped us to define a few key pockets of research that will help start us off in our reading.
For me, we landed on:
- relationships (particularly between performers on tour)
- professional ethics
- keeping repeated performances new/fresh
- finding energy
When choosing an inquiry title, we need to remember to keep them open and fluid - we're not looking for answers, we're looking to explore.
~ I will think more on these and make a more detailed post about my ideas later this week! ~
This module has a lot of sections to it, so Helen recommended that we take each stage as it comes and not jump ahead. Here's a brief overview of the stages of this module:
1. Develop a proposal (mapping practices)
- identify 3 pockets to research
- look at previous literature on the same topics
- note what you're reading and your feelings about it in preparation for your Literature Review (template can be found on unihub)
2. Decide how you will explore
- look into research methods (e.g. survey, focus group etc.)
- understand the format of a research project
3. Look at the ethics
- submit the MORE form (there will be a Zoom about this)
4. Analysis
- what are you going to do with your data?
- read about types of analysis
5. Create a timeline
- breakdown what you're going to do and when
So, yes, I'm feeling positive. There's a lot of work ahead but it feels a lot more defined that Module 1; definitely attainable! Time to get reading and researching!
Hi Lizzie!
ReplyDeleteThis blog was great to read and refresh myself on the different stages of this Module, thank you for this!
You have reminded me to note more about my feelings and thoughts surrounding the literature for my literature review. I am going to try and journal more as a reflective method.
